It’s definitely an important indicator of possible success passing your appropriate real estate board exam, but that’s not the be-all and end-all. If you’ve passed the exam and received your accreditation, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you will be a successful realtor who sells houses like hot cakes. There’s plenty more work to be done as part of what it takes to make it in real estate.
Developing the skill of selling
The bottom line is if you’re to make it in the real estate business then you have to develop your selling skills. Yes, there are always people looking for newly-built or pre-loved homes to buy, but by no means does that mean that the houses you have listed will sell themselves. YOU have to sell.
At the end of the day as a realtor your salary is determined by the commission you manage to make as a result of the number of sales you push. Fortunately if you’re not going it alone, as is the case with pretty much everyone looking to get into real estate, you will be taken under the wing of some realtors who have a bit more experience to their names.
In fact it’s kind of a requirement to go through some sort of mentorship programme before you can even think about striking out on your own, so you’ll likely learn how to sell. However, you’ll still need to bring some of your own fire to it. Anybody can spew some cookie cutter sales pitch lines. You’ll be the one who has to come up with unique selling pointers such as bringing prospective buyers onto the same page as the one you’re on with regards to something like compromising on certain features which will never all be found in one house that’s already been built, for example.
The opportunities to close sales are dictated to by the market, so you need to be disciplined enough to stay on top of the work as it comes in. Discipline is indeed a requirement for any chance of success.
Thinking outside the box
With pretty much the mentorship of existing realtors guaranteeing your entry into the market, there’s a need to think outside the box in order to gain an edge at times or just to survive. Don’t be afraid to try out new methods of soliciting prospective buyers and even sellers, for example.
Pretty much all the skills which are required to succeed in real estate can be learned, with some of the more technical ones usually set out by the experts to be implemented from toolkits such as user manuals and the likes. However, you’ll be spending way too much time just trying to get everything done right if you try to do everything yourself in the real estate game. You have to master the art of delegation, such as perhaps leaving the handling of all the legal documentation to experts such as the H1 Law Group, for example.
You’ll also need a suitably qualified professional to do the admin as well, etc.
